Special Hardship Order
Losing your driver licence can have a significant impact on your ability to work, support your family and manage everyday responsibilities. In Queensland, a Special Hardship Order may allow eligible drivers to continue driving under specific conditions during a period of licence suspension.
A Special Hardship Order is a court order available in certain circumstances, including where a driver’s licence has been suspended due to accumulating demerit points during a good behaviour period or for committing a high-speed driving offence (driving more than 40 km/h over the speed limit).
To be granted a Special Hardship Order, you must satisfy the court that refusing the application would cause extreme hardship by affecting your ability to earn a living, or severe and unusual hardship to you or your family for other reasons. The court will also consider whether you are a fit and proper person to continue driving and whether allowing you to drive would be safe for other road users.
