Parenting After Separation Courses

There are a number of parenting courses that parents may elect to complete or be required to complete pursuant to the Court’s direction. It is not a requirement in every parenting matter, but it is common for the Court to Order completion of parenting courses in high conflict matters.

The Family Law Act is based on the following principles:

• All children have a right to know both their parents and to grow up with their love and support;
• All children have a right to be protected from harm;
• Parenting is a responsibility should be equally shared, provided this does not put children at risk; and
• Parents should be able to work together and work out what is best for their children rather than fighting in a Court room.

In accordance with the aforementioned principles, parenting after separation courses have been designed to support parents in parenting in accordance with the best interests of their children.
