Sunshine Magistrates Court
Sunshine Magistrates Court is located at 10 Foundry Road in Sunshine. It is located almost opposite the Sunshine Market Hall shopping centre.
If you are the defendant in a criminal matter, your matter will be listed at the Sunshine Magistrates Court at first instance if the offending is alleged to have occurred within Sunshine or the immediately surrounding suburbs. If your matter resolves as a plea of guilty, you may apply for it to be transferred to a court closer to where you reside.
The Magistrates' Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matter,s including traffic offences, as well as family violence and personal safety intervention order applications. While the Magistrates Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court (located in the same building) deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18, intervention order applications where the respondent is under 18, and child protection matters.
If you have a matter in the Sunshine Magistrates Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day.
The Sunshine Magistrates Court has dedicated court parking right out the front of the court building; however, this is limited and quickly fills up. Alternative parking is available at the Sunshine Market Hall shopping centre. If you are attending court for traffic offences for which the court may impose a licence disqualification period, do not drive to court, as you may not be permitted to drive home.
If attending for an intervention order matter, you should turn left immediately after security and make your appearance at the counter. If attending court for a criminal matter, you should keep walking straight after security and make your appearance at the counter at the end. The court registry can assist you with speaking to the prosecution and which court your matter will be heard in.
