Broadmeadows Magistrates Court

The Broadmeadows Magistrates Court is located at the corner of Dimboola Road and Pearcedale Parade in Broadmeadows. It is just opposite the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre and down the road from the Broadmeadows Police Station.

If you a the defendant in a criminal matter, your matter will be listed at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court at first instance if the offending allegedly occurred in Broadmeadows or in the immediately surrounding suburbs. If your matter resolves as a plea of guilty, you may apply for it to be transferred to a court closer to where you reside.

The Magistrates Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matters including traffic offences, as well as family violence and personal safety intervention order applications. While the Magistrates Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court (located in the same building) deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18, intervention order applications where the respondent is under 18 and child protection matters.

If you have a matter in the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day.

When you arrive at court and have passed through security you should keep to the right and make your way towards the Magistrates Court registry (left if heading for the Children’s Court). You will enter a large hall with ample seating. At the opposite end will be a wall of counters. For criminal/traffic matters go to the counter on the left and for Intervention Order matters to the second one from the left. At this counter, your appearance will be taken and you will be told where you can speak with the prosecution, where you can speak with a duty lawyer and which court your matter will be heard in.
