De facto relationships
A de facto relationship in Brisbane (QLD) is a relationship between two people who live together on a genuine domestic basis without being married. Some de facto couples register their relationship; others don’t. The Family Law Act applies to de facto couples in the same way it does to married couples. However, in order for a relationship to be recognised as a de facto relationship, the parties must have:- Lived together for a total of at least two years; or
- Have one or more children;
- Have significant shared assets.
