Moruya Local Court

The Moruya Local Court is located on Vulcan Street, Moruya. It is on the corner of Queen Street, with the Commonwealth Bank, Harris Scarfe and Offshore Surf on the other corners. The District Court of New South Wales does not sit at Moruya so if you have a serious indictable matter that arises from the Moruya area, you should expect it to be finalised at Bega or Nowra after initial appearances at Moruya Local Court.

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offenses, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. The Local Court sits as the Children’s Court for matters involving people under the age of 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone not connected with the case will be asked to leave when the Children’s Court is sitting.

If you have a matter before Moruya Local Court, make sure you arrive well before the time the matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours. The court list is held by a registrar, who will circulate on the verandah of the courthouse before court begins and ask people to check in.
