Moree Local Court

Moree is a town in Moree Plains Shire in Northern New South Wales. The Moree Courts are located on Frome Street between Heber Street on the North and Albert Street on the South. The Moree Courts hear Local Court matters and, when the District Court is on circuit, District Court matters.

In New South Wales, all criminal matters commence in the Local Court. Less serious criminal cases, known as summary matters, are finalised in the Local Court when the accused is an adult and in the Children’s Court when the accused is under 18. Summary matters include traffic offences and offences for which a person received a penalty or infringement notice and chose to have the matter heard by a court. Licence suspension appeals are also dealt with in the Local Court.

The District Court finalises serious indictable criminal matters.

If you have a matter at the Moree Court House, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should be prepared to be at court for most of the day.

Street parking near Moree Court House is available, though be mindful that time limits apply. If you are attending court for traffic offences for which the court may impose a licence disqualification period, do not drive to court.
