Lockhart Local Court

The Lockhart Local Court is located at the corner of Mathews Street and Hebden Street.

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offenses, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications.

The Lockhart Local Court sits as the Lockhart Children’s Court when dealing with criminal matters where the accused is under 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone not connected with the case will be asked to leave when the court is sitting as the Children’s Court.

The District Court of New South Wales, which finalises serious indictable criminal matters, does not sit at Lockhart. If you have a District Court matter arising from the Lockhart area, you should expect it to be finalised at Wagga Wagga.

If you have a matter before the Lockhart Local Court, make sure you arrive well before the time the matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours. The court list is held by a registrar, who will circulate outside the courtroom before court begins and ask people to check in.
