Griffith Local Court

The Local court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offences, including Assault, Domestic Violence, Drink Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications.

The Griffith Local Court sits as the Griffith Children’s Court for criminal matters where the accused is under 18. Anyone not connected with the case will be asked to leave the room when the court is sitting as the Children’s Court.

The District Court of New South Wales, which finalises serious indictable criminal matters, sits at Griffith several times each year (in three – or four-week rotations) in the same court complex.

If you have a matter before Griffith Court, make sure you arrive well before the time your matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours. The court list is held by a Registrar, who will circulate outside the courtroom before court begins, and ask people to check in.
