Goulburn Local Court

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offenses, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications.

The Local Court sits as the Children’s Court for matters involving people under the age of 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone not connected with the case will be asked to leave when the Children’s Court is in session.

The District Court of New South Wales also sits in Goulburn in two- or three-week rotations at nominated times throughout the year in a separate courtroom within the same court complex.

If you have a matter before Goulburn Local Court, make sure you arrive well before the time the matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours. The court list is held by a Registrar, who will circulate in the foyer before court begins, and ask people to check in.
