Cowra Local Court

Cowra Local Court is located at the corner of Kendal and Brisbane Streets. The Local court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offences, including Assault, Domestic Violence, Drink Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications.

If you are charged with a serious offence which must be committed to the District Court of NSW later in the proceedings, your matter will be listed at another court, likely in Orange as the District Court does not sit at Cowra. Cowra Local Court does however sit as the Children’s Court, which deals with accused persons under the age of 18 years. The Children’s Court is a closed court, meaning that persons who are not involved in the matter are not permitted to be in court while the matter is being dealt with.

When you arrive at Cowra Local Court, ensure you make yourself known to the registrar or associate, who is generally holding a clipboard. Your matter will be called when the magistrate is ready to hear it. It is a small courthouse, and people generally congregate outside before their matter is called.
