Blacktown Local Court

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offenses, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. While the Local Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18, as well as hearing child protection and adoption matters.

If you have a matter in the Blacktown Local Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day. The Local Court is presided over by a Magistrate, who should always be addressed as “Your Honour.” Matters are generally not heard in any specific order; however, most courts hear matters where the parties are legally represented before ones where they are not.
