Bankstown Local Court

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offences, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. While the Local Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18 as well as hearing child protection and adoption matters.

Bankstown Local Court is located in the southwest of the Sydney metropolitan area. The court is located very close to the train station, bus terminal and mall. If travelling by car, there is minimal metered street parking available on the adjoining streets. If you are travelling by train, travel to Bankstown Railway station. The court is less than 5 mins walk from the train station. If travelling by bus, disembark at the terminal and again, a very short walk to the courthouse.

If you have a matter in the Bankstown Local Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day. The Local Court is presided over by a Magistrate, who should be always addressed as “Your Honour.” Matters are generally not heard in any specific order, however, courts generally hear matters where parties are legally represented before ones where they are not.
